Nicholas & Michelle | The Forum Turbine Hall | Newtown Johannesburg
Michelle & Nic, are possibly one of the most humble and beautiful couples that we’ve met. With Michelle being the owner of The Shop, a design, branding and events company, it was no surprise that she set her heart on one of the most iconic venues in Johannesburg, Turbine Hall in Newtown. Turbine Hall is an architecturally distinct and heritage rich old power station dating out of the 1920’s which has been turned into an contemporary function venue by The Forum. Michelle co-ordinated and planned her own wedding reception to the very last exposed bulb and copper finish. She did a magnificent job at this.
The day started off with summer sunshine at each of their family homes. Michelle took our breaths away with her beautiful lace dress designed by Cape Town fashion designer Kobus Dippenaar Atelier. With Nic’s Family home being away from Johannesburg our lovely friends Cait and Ashley from Two Photography helped us out to be in more than one place at a time.
After a beautiful ceremony we were welcomed by a typical late afternoon Johannesburg thundershower. So where better to go for a sheltered couple shoot in Newtown than under Joburg’s oldest rail station structure, the Old Park Halt. Manufactured in Rotterdam and designed by architect Klinkhamer, it was sent to South Africa as Johannesburg Station in 1896. This was an absolute perfect setting for the couple shoot and a spot that just asks to be photographed.
The reception set inside the massive hall of the old power station truly exploded with energy when Michelle and Nic opened the dance floor to an eventful evening filled with tradition & love.
We loved every second of documenting your celebration of love, Michelle and Nic. We couldn’t agree more with the sign inside Turbine Hall, “History is always written by the winners”.
